The autumn crocus, also known as the meadow saffron or naked lady, is a pink or purple flower that is native to the United Kingdom. It is notable for containing the chemical colchicine, which has recently been shown to be a potential cure for cancer in tests conducted by the Institute for Cancer Therapeutics at the University of Bradford. The chemical breaks down human tissue, which can be used to attack the blood vessels supplying a tumor, starving and eradicating it before it becomes a bigger problem.

It is at risk of extinction, although early efforts of proliferation have been successful.
