A legal subdivision of a state government, with an elected governing body, which develops and implements soil and water conservation programmes within a certain area, usually coinciding with county lines. The nearly 3,000 districts in the United States have varying names ie. soil conservation district, soil and water conservation district, natural resources district, resource conservation district, resources district, or conservation district.
