Fixed ratio

1) A schedule in which people are reinforced for making a response only after they have made a fixed number of those responses without reinforcement. This schedule usually causes people to pause after reinforcement and then work at a very high rate until the next reinforcement. The overall rate is higher than continuous reinforcement but lower than variable ratio.

2) A response-based schedule of reinforcement that delivers reinforcement after a fixed number of responses are made. On a fixed ratio 10 (FR 10), the organism must make 10 responses for reinforcement.
