Floating balance
A pin-pallet lever variant which appeared in the 1960s, the floating balance was designed to reduce balance-pivot friction. This was achieved by supporting the weights of the balance assembly by a balance spring of double helical form. Half right-handed and half left-handed. This double helical form maintains a constant distance between the pinning points while the spring winds and unwinds.
