Image scaling

The full-screen video image must be reduced to fit into a graphics window (usually a fraction of the total computer display area), while at the same time maintaining a clear and complete image. To do this, it is important to remove or avoid visual artefacts and other “noise” such as degradation caused by pixel and line dropping, and interlacing problems from the scaling process. The challenges increase when dealing with moving images and the compression/decompression of large amounts of video data.
