Nuclear scaffold
The network of protein fibres that underlies the nuclear inner membrane and is exposed upon extraction of soluble proteins from the nucleus. Between mitoses (interphase), chromatin is attached to the scaffold at points along its DNA strands. The loops of unattached DNA are presumably available for transcription.
