Oxytocin challenge test (OCT)

Also called a contraction stress test, an OCT is a test to cheque on how the baby is doing while inside the uterus. An OCT tests how the baby responds to the stress of uterine contractions. The expectant mother is hooked up to a foetal monitor and is given contraction-inducing oxytocin via an IV, while the baby is monitored to see how it responds to the contractions.
