A pointing device that enables the user to select menu items or command options on a display screen for input or output; examples include mouse, trackball, joystick, touchpad, puck, stylus, and light pen. A pointer may be variously represented as an arrow, cross, I-beam, hand, or other object, depending upon the content and application; and may also be known as a "mouse cursor".
