Slasher
A horror movie in which a cast of characters (usually, but not always, teens) is killed off one by one by a homicidal killer, leaving only one or two survivors to kill or escape the antagonist. The genre was inspired partly by the Italian giallo thrillers. One of the early models for later slashers is the film, "Halloween" (1978).
