Terminate-and-stay resident (TSR)

Also known as a memory resident program, a programme that remains active in memory while other programmes run on the system. TSRs allow the user to quickly switch between programmes in a non-multitasking environment. Examples of TSRs are VShield, a DOS-based mouse, and a CD-ROM driver. Some viruses are TSRs that stay in memory to infect other files and programs.
