The honeycombed surface of this sharp, light bread is perfect for keeping pockets of syrup. Waffles are made by pouring a light batter on one side of a waffle iron, a special swivel cooking utensil with two honeycomb pattern griddles. The second side is closed over the batter and the waffle is cooked until brown and crispy. Waffle irons can electric or designed for stovetop cooking.
