Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Contributors in Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding

Tensile strength

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The maximum tensile stress sustained by the specimen during a tension test

Thermoforming

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The process of forming a thermoplastic sheet into a three-dimensional shape by clamping the sheet in a frame, heating it to tender it soft and flowable. Then applying differential pressure to make ...

Casting

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The process of forming solid or hollow articles from fluid plastic mixtures or resins by pouring or injecting the fluid into a mould or against a substrate with little or no pressure, followed by ...

Cure

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The process of changing properties of polymer into a more stable and usable condition. This is accomplished by the use of heat, radiation, or reaction with chemical additives.

Moulding pressure

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The pressure applied to the ram of an injection machine or press to force the softened plastic completely to fill the mould cavities.

Cold moulding

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The process of compression moulding involving shaping an unheated compound in a mould under pressure then heating the article to cure it.

Injection pressure

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The pressure on the face of the injection screw or ram when injecting material into the mold, usually expressed in PSI.
