Flight 93
Flight 93 was the last of the ill-fated airplanes to unknowingly take off on 9/11 with hijackers on board. It is the only one of the four flights that crashed before it could hit its intended target on September 11 of 2001 , thanks to the heroism of some of the passengers who fought the hijackers to prevent it from carrying out their attack.
Originally scheduled for San Francisco, Flight 93 had a total of 40 people on board. Four of those passengers turned out to be hijackers who forced their way into the cockpit to take control of the airplane. A group of passengers reportedly rushed to the front of the airplane, overwhelming the hijackers and disrupting their plans. The plane then streamed towards the ground, crashing with enough force to leave a 40-foot crater from the impact and resulting fireball.
The crash site near Shanksville Pennsylvania has been dedicated to the Flight 93 Memorial on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.
