Hippias

Tyrant of Athens (r.527-510 BC) who succeeded his father, Peisistratus. He was responsible for extensive building programmes in Athens. Increasingly tyrannical, he was overthrown in 510 BC by the Athenians with assistance from the Spartans. The Persians attempted to restore him in 490 BC.
