Rockefeller family
The Rockefeller family are the descendants of John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937) and his brother William Rockefeller (1841-1922). The family is an American industrial, banking, and political family of origin that made one of the world's largest private fortune in the oil business during the late 19th and early 20th century, primarily through the Standard Oil Company.
The combined wealth of the family is unknown as individual members' net worth is closed to researchers. Much of this wealth is locked up in the family trusts of 1934 and 1952, both administered by the Chase Manhattan Bank.
From 1860 to 1960, over $1 billion was given away by the family, and the current patriarch of the family, David Rockefeller, has donated around $900 million over his lifetime.
