Uttarakhand is one of the 28 states of India, situated in the northern part of the country bordering China and Nepal. Its capital and largest city is Dehradun and the state has a population of over 10 million. Hindus make up 85% of the population, followed by Muslims at 10.5%. Hindi and Sanskrit are the official languages, though Garhwali, Kumaoni and Urdu are also spoken.
