culture jamming
A counter-cultural practice where people will subtly modify common brands or slogans to fit their own agenda, usually opposite to the intentions of the original logo. It is usually done to highlight questionable political practices, to encourage people to take notice of their surroundings, or to expose commercial practices.
Culture jamming has been criticised for often involving vandalism or potential intellectual property theft. It's also been suggested that it is ineffective, easily ignorable, and blue sky advertising companies are able to co-opt similar practices for legitimate advertising.
