dpi (dots per inch) resolution

Unit of measurement used to describe the printing resolution of an output device, or the printed resolution of images, based on the number of separate ink droplets represented either horizontally or vertically in one inch. Also correlates to pixels per inch and samples per inch. A higher dpi number infers greater color clarity, better visibility and a more crisp image.
