The categories which make up the schematic systems in the conceptual structuring system approach. Each schematic system is made up of several schematic categories which serve to encode different aspects of schematic meaning. For instance, the configurational system has a number of schematic categories which include: plexity, dividedness, boundedness, degree of extension, pattern of distribution, axiality. These categories structure the scenes encoded by language and the participants that interact within these scenes.
