Stem cells

Embryonic cells that have not yet become specialised tissue cells--they potentially can develop into any type of tissue in the body. Children and adults retain somewhat specialised stem cells in their bone marrow. These stem cells are the source of the major blood cells--erythrocytes, leukocytes, and thrombocytes (platelets).
