Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

Duplication

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The occurrence of a segment more than once in the same chromosome or genome.

Ploidy

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The number of sets of chromosomes per cell, e.g., haploid, diploid, polyploid.

Molarity

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The number of moles of a substance contained in a kilogramme of solution.

Molality

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The number of moles of solute per litre of solvent.

Sexual reproduction

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The process where two cells (gametes) fuse to form one fertilised cell or zygote. cf asexual reproduction; gamete; hybrid.

Positional cloning

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The process that commences with searching for markers linked to a particular inherited trait, then using those markers to identify the approximate location of the gene responsible for the trait, and ...

Inbred line

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
