Plastic injection molding
Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Plastic injection molding
Chopped strand
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
A type of fibre reinforcement consisting of strands of individual glass fibres which have been chopped into short pieces.
Slip agent
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Additive used to provide lubrication during and immediately following processing of plastics.
Impact modifiers
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Additive used to enhance the material's ability to withstand the force of impact.
Blow moulding
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Method of fabrication in which a warm plastic hollow tube is placed between the two halves of a mould cavity and forced to assume the shape of that mould cavity by use of internal pressure. This ...
Lubricant
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Internal lubricants, without affecting the fusion properties of a compound, promotes resin flow. External lubricants promote release from metals which aids in the smooth flow of melt over die ...
Overpack
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Melt will fill the easiest flow path first and will continue to pack this area while material reaches the other areas. This is a cause of warping created by unbalanced flow.
Flow balancing
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Modifying flow paths, particularly runner sections, so that all flow paths within a mould fill in equal time with equal pressure.
