Cowpea weevil

The cowpea weevil is an exotic pest species. The beetle is brown and scaly and rounded in shape, with long legs and antennae. The elytra (hardened front wings) are patterned with light and dark markings, and are quite short, not fully covering the abdomen. The underside is covered with fine hairs. When disturbed they sometimes feign death and stay motionless for minutes.
